Sensegen Joins Fragrance Creators Association

The pioneer of ingredients created using sustainable biotech joins over 60 other member companies, all working to advocate for a responsible, sustainable fragrance industry

Sensegen has joined the membership of Fragrance Creators Association, the trade association representing the fragrance industry in North America. Sensegen uses biotechnology-based innovations to sustainably reproduce complex scents for use in fine fragrance, personal care, fabric, and home care products. They join over 60 other member companies, ranging from small businesses to multinational corporations that represent the majority of fragrance manufacturing in North America—from supplying ingredients, to creating and manufacturing fragrances, to marketing finished products. Together, Fragrance Creators members are grounded in safety, powered by innovation, and passionate about advancing responsible stewardship of the fragrance industry at large.

“Sensegen is pleased to join Fragrance Creators,” said Angélique Burke, Vice President of Fragrance and Senior Perfumer at Sensegen. “Our Creators are reimagining the fragrance, taste and cosmetic palette to inspire sustainable, clean, safe and supply-stable ingredient technologies for home and personal care, and food and beverage applications. Given Fragrance Creators’ focus on advocating for policies that promote sustainable innovation and industry-wide stewardship, we determined membership in the association to be a business imperative that also advances our values.”

“We are delighted to welcome Sensegen’s broad and deep expertise to the association,” said Farah K. Ahmed, President & CEO, Fragrance Creators. “Fragrance Creators members strive to increase knowledge and appreciation of fragrances while also educating and advocating using our best-in-class science to allow our industry to continue to grow in a responsible and sustainable way. Sensegen is an exciting addition to our membership, and we look forward to working with them to, together, advance more good for people, perfume, and the planet.”

From Jan. 20 through Jan. 24, 2023, Fragrance Creators Association (Fragrance Creators) members joined together in Sacramento, California, to share information that helps the state’s regulators and legislators advance policies that empower the fragrance value chain to accelerate sustainable innovation and meet evolving consumer needs. Over the course of three days, Fragrance Creators engaged with leadership at the California Air Resources Board (CARB) as well as California Assembly Members, Senators, and their staffs. Discussions included education on deeper technical science, as well as the important role of fragrance in industry stewardshipsustainability, and consumer education.

During the meeting with CARB staff on Jan. 20, Fragrance Creators highlighted the safety of and science behind fragrance ingredients, the essential role scent plays in various products, and the innovative ways the industry is working to protect the environment.  This meeting comes as the new CARB consumer product VOC amendments are beginning to come into effect.

“Fragrance Creators has had a longstanding relationship with CARB built upon mutual respect and science-based conversations,” said Amanda Nguyen, Fragrance Creators’ Vice President of Government Affairs and Legal. “Through that, we have found much common ground.  As our members work to comply with the requirements of the VOC regulations and to communicate the challenges they pose, we are pleased to continue to strengthen our relationship. We extend our thanks to CARB staff for their time and look forward to working with them going forward.”

On Jan. 23 and 24, Fragrance Creators members had over 20 engagements with Assembly Members, Senators, and their staffs, including a briefing for the staff of key policy committees including the Assembly Natural Resources Committee, the Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials Committee, and the Senate Environmental Quality Committee. These meetings centered around the kinds of policies that promote sustainable innovation in the fragrance industry and beyond. Fragrance Creators also leads a coalition comprised of industry stakeholders and while in California hosted a briefing of this coalition to strengthen communication and coordination amongst industry.

“By meeting with legislators early in their legislative session, we are able to ensure they’re clear on the kinds of policies that will allow our industry to do its part to deliver more good for people and the planet,” said Farah K. Ahmed, Fragrance Creators’ President and CEO. “We will continue to leverage our network of over 1000 scientists and technical experts to educate key stakeholders in California, and beyond, throughout the year.”

Baxter of California Expands Fragrance Collection With Two New California-Inspired Scents

The top-selling men’s grooming brand is launching two new universal fragrances, Valley Mist and Canyon Incense – bottling the breathing landscapes across California

Following the success of the brand’s signature scent, Pacific Cannabis, men’s grooming and lifestyle brand Baxter of California announces the launch of Valley Mist and Canyon Incense, two new, California-inspired fragrances as part of its expanding collection of lifestyle products for men.

Baxter of California has bottled the essence and spirit of California to bring consumers two new fragrances inspired by some of the state’s most beautiful landscapes. Since 1965, Baxter of California has created products that embody the Southern Californian lifestyle and effectively care for the body and hair. These new fragrances capture the landscapes and aromas that are synonymous with the state – Valley Mist, inspired by the state’s vast orchards located in the low fertile grounds between mountains, and Canyon Incense, inspired by the fresh scents in the winding canyons across the state.

“We are so excited to share our new fragrances with the public,” says Jose Figueroa, Associate Brand Manager of Baxter of California, “Pacific Cannabis has been such a staple scent for our consumers, and we’re elated to connect with an even wider fragrance-loving audience with the addition of Valley Mist and Canyon Incense to our fragrance collection.”

Valley Mist is a daytime scent inspired by the morning mist of the fertile grounds and orchards in Southern California’s valleys. The fresh zest of the breeze contrasts with the sun-drenched sweetness of the fruit on the trees. The fragrance opens with bergamot, lemon and ocean mist. The fresh heart notes include fir needle, pine needles and jasmine leaf, and the fragrance finishes with base notes cypress tree, driftwood and sheer musk.

Canyon Incense is a nighttime scent inspired by the cooler, fresher air found in the twists and turns of the state’s canyon landscapes. This leafy, woodsy scent blends into the spicy warmth of the fading sun. This scent opens with notes of bergamot, nutmeg and apple peel. Earthy heart notes include canyon rock, amber mist and tonka bean, and the scent is rounded out with a base of guaiac wood, red cedar and sandalwood.

Baxter of California’s Valley Mist and Canyon Incense fragrances will be available in 3.4 fl. oz/100 mL bottles at baxterofcalifornia.com and retailers including Ulta, Macy’s and Amazon.
